An Ohio mother’s four young children and their grandmother were killed in a suspected carbon monoxide poisoning as they waited inside their car for help with a flat tire.
Adriana Coleman lost five family members in the tragedy on Wednesday after their stranded car filled with the odorless gas at levels ‘five times the lethal limit,’ according to WTVG News.
‘It seems so surreal because life has stopped for me right now,’ Coleman told the outlet in tears.
‘I’m here, but I have no idea what’s going to happen after I walk out these hospital doors,’ she added. ‘I just want my babies.’
Among the dead were Coleman’s four-year-old twins, Liberty and Legacy, her three-year-old daughter Storm, and her two-year-old son Stone.
The children’s grandmother, 36-year-old Candace McAllister, also died.
Their limp bodies were discovered by the children’s father Kesaun Coleman after his mom called him for help with the flat tire.
He immediately dialed 911 and first responders tried desperately to revive them but were unsuccessful.

Reflecting on her loss, Coleman said: ‘Just before four, three and two. They all had so much personality in life and were so full of love. They were far beyond their years, for sure. Everything I did was for my kids.
‘Liberty – I’ll miss her telling me what to do, for sure. She thought she was everybody’s mom. Storm – she wanted to be just like Liberty, but she had her own personality.’
‘Ace – he was my wild child. It was his way or no way,’ she added. ‘And Stone – that was my baby. That was my last baby.’
Remembering McAllister, Coleman said: ‘She had a great personality. She was definitely the life of the party.’
McAllister phoned the children’s father for help after getting a flat tire while driving Wednesday with the four youngsters in the 300 block of Phillips Avenue, near Detroit Avenue in Toledo, authorities said.
The Toledo Police Department first announced an ‘active hazmat incident’ in the area on social media just before 12pm, adding that officers and Toledo Fire and Rescue crews were at the scene.
‘They started rendering life-saving treatments to all the patients as we called more crews to the scene and had a hazmat response because we didn’t know what we were dealing with,’ Toledo Fire Chief Allison Armstrong said, according to WTVG.
Investigators later determined the family was killed in an accidental carbon monoxide poisoning, with the lethal gas silently filling the car as they sat inside with the windows closed and the air conditioning running.
When the children’s father, Kesaun Coleman, arrived, he found all five family members unconscious inside the vehicle and called 911

Legacy, affectionately called ‘Ace,’ survived for nearly two days before Coleman made the agonizing decision to take him off life support
‘The detective said when they put their meter in the car to test the carbon monoxide levels, the level was five times the lethal limit,’ Coleman told the outlet.
Legacy, affectionately called ‘Ace,’ survived for nearly two days after the tragedy before Coleman made the agonizing decision to take her son off life support on Friday.
‘It feels so wrong. They just made everything make sense for me,’ she told the outlet. ‘Just please keep us in your prayers because this is going to be a long road. ‘Everything I did was for, about, with my kids.’
In a heartbreaking Facebook tribute, Coleman wrote: ‘There is absolutely nothing that I enjoyed, loved, fought harder to be aside from being a mommy. And the kids I was given made that so very easy.’
‘These last 48 hours seem like a complete blur. I’ve lost everything I’ve put my all into over the last five years,’ she added. ‘If anyone knows me you know I may have failed or messed up at everything else but being a mother!
‘I loved my babies more than anyone and anything in this world. and there was literally NOTHING that could take me from them. But unfortunately, something took them from me.’
Kesaun has also turned to Facebook to share photos of his family and his heartbreak as he struggles to cope with the devastating loss and the trauma of finding his loved ones unresponsive.
‘Woke up yesterday, was on my way to get the kids and sit with my mom and figure out a tire. But instead I pulled up to my mom and kids gone,’ one post read. ‘I’m beyond crushed.’
The family is now seeking financial support to cover funeral costs after reportedly having no life insurance, according to WTVG News. Donations can be made to the Coleman-McAllister Fund at any Fifth Third Bank branch.
