A 4-month-old puppy is recovering in a foster home after being thrown from a third-story window in Ohio.

On July 6, Luna Mae was rushed to an emergency veterinary hospital after a bystander found her with traumatic injuries and two broken legs. According to Cleveland 19, the person listed on her microchip has abandoned her following the incident.

The emergency hospital would have humanely euthanized Luna Mae if the Berea Animal Rescue Fund (Berea ARF) hadn’t come to her rescue.

“She fell or was thrown out of a third-story window and then was abandoned, the owner or whoever was on the chip didn’t claim her,” Jennifer McCarty of Berea ARF told the outlet.

McCarty described Luna Mae as being “traumatized” after the horrific incident.

“Just a broken little puppy — abrasions on her face, both legs severely broken,” McCarty told Cleveland 19.

Berea ARF shared fundraising efforts for her medical treatment on social media, emphasizing that the puppy has been through “unthinkable” pain.

Within 24 hours of establishing an Angel’s Fund to raise at least $2,000 for Luna Mae’s treatment, the goal was met.

McCarty said animal lovers are still donating to ensure the organization can continue to provide medical care.

“It warms your heart, that’s for sure, to know that you’re not in it alone,” she told Cleveland 19.

The shelter is consulting with numerous veterinarians and orthopedic surgeons to determine how best to support Luna Mae’s ongoing recovery, per the outlet.

A decision has not been made on whether she will need a leg amputated as the incident occurred at a time when her bones are still developing. 

Despite having not yet been medically cleared, a foster family has expressed interest in adopting Luna Mae.

“That’s the funny thing about animals — they’re better than people. She’s loving and playful. Despite everything she’s been through, she’s still very trusting and loving,” McCarty said of Luna Mae to Cleveland 19.
