White House insiders reveal Barron Trump’s role in World Cup final… and his plan to finally emerge from shadows, as president’s son emulates his father more than ever

Barron Trump, 20, is rarely seen in public. He did not even attend his brother Donald Trump Jr’s wedding in May.

But sporting events have brought him into the public eye – and the Daily Mail has learned that the young Trump will be at the World Cup final game alongside his father this Sunday.

In his only public appearance at the White House during his father’s second presidential term, he was spotted in mid-June at the Freedom 250 UFC fight on the White House lawn.

He also attended Trump’s inauguration at the Capitol in January 2025 and the State of the Union Address in February 2026, towering over tech CEOs and politicians at 6 feet 9 inches tall.

Glimpses of the UFC fight night shared in a video by the president’s niece Kai Trump, 19, appeared to show Barron enjoying himself.

The New York University student was seen greeting attendees during the event, including World Cup pundit and former soccer star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Despite attending the Washington, DC, campus of NYU, Barron is not frequently seen at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

But a source close to the family tells the Daily Mail that he could be coming out of the shadows more frequently from now on.

The source, who has been at several events with the president’s youngest son, says that he is ‘really starting to resemble his father.’

‘He has a bright future ahead of him, whatever he chooses to do,’ she told the Daily Mail.

A second insider close to his family says Barron is ‘just your average college kid at heart.’

‘He loves sports just like any other guy. But his dad is the president and although he doesn’t talk politics yet, you never know. His presence is larger than life,’ they told the Daily Mail.

His father and mother Melania will attend the FIFA World Cup championship match between Spain and Argentina on Sunday at MetLife Stadium New Jersey.

Eric and Lara Trump are also expected to attend the momentous match, among other Trump family members.

The President’s youngest son has long been known to be a soccer fan.

Norwegian news outlet VG reported that while in Ankara for the NATO summit, Trump told Norway’s Prime Minister that he admired star Norwegian striker Erling Haaland.

President Trump reportedly credited Barron for making him aware of Haaland’s talents.

Last fall, when soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo paid a visit to the White House, Trump brought up Barron in their public conversation.

Ronaldo plays for Al-Nassr FC in Saudi Arabia’s pro soccer league and for his native Portugal in international competitions. He’s a well-known supporter of the President.

During dinner with Ronaldo and his fiancée, Georgina Rodriguez, Trump proclaimed that Barron was ‘a big fan of Ronaldo’ and said he was glad to introduce his son to the superstar.

But Barron certainly used to play soccer.

Nearly ten years ago, an 11-year-old Barron was listed on the academy roster for Major League Soccer’s DC United, and footage of him playing youth soccer has previously gone viral.

In a 2019 interview with CBS’s ‘Face the Nation,’ the elder Trump said that Barron ‘plays a lot of soccer. He’s liking soccer.’

Football – American football – was too dangerous for him to feel comfortable encouraging his son to play it, he said in the same interview.

At a White House Christmas party in 2018, Barron was pictured with English soccer legend Wayne Rooney, then playing for Major League Soccer’s DC United team.

Rooney received a special invitation from the Trumps to attend.

While the President praises his son’s athletic abilities, he did admit to FIFA president Gianni Infantino last August that Barron’s 6ft 9in frame put him ‘on the tall side for soccer.’

This year’s World Cup has seen more than its fair share of political drama, with FIFA suspending the penalty of US striker Folarin Balogun’s red card after President Trump made a phone call to Infantino.

Both men denied that FIFA’s decision was made as a direct result of the call.

Trump is expected to join Infantino on the field for the trophy presentation after Sunday’s championship game.
