California’s ‘First Partner’ Jennifer Siebel Newsom attempted to dodge a question about her Democrat superstar husband Gavin Newsom’s potential presidential ambitions.
Siebel Newsom was pressed on the issue during an interview with MS NOW host Stephanie Ruhle on Friday in which she talked about being under investigation by Donald Trump’s Department of Justice (DOJ).
Speculation has been mounting that her husband is setting himself up to run for the White House in 2028 and during the interview, Siebel Newsom suggested that the DOJ has targeted her and the governor because the GOP think he will run for president.
But when asked point blank if Governor Newsom ‘aspires’ to become commander-in-chief, she refused to give a straightforward answer and instead listed off several liberal talking points.
‘I believe right now we are focused on California. We built a foundation. I’ve been focused on women and children and communities. I’m really proud of the work we’re doing to close the women’s wealth gap, the women’s wage gap to get women on public company boards,’ she said.
Siebel Newsom, who many Republicans believe would be a hindrance to her husband’s presidential campaign following a series of gaffes, also said that she and her husband are prioritizing ‘saving our democracy’ from Trump over any White House wishes.
‘The world is looking at us going, what is going on in America right now or in the United States of America right now? And they’re extremely concerned and it’s destabilizing. And so we have an opportunity to right the ship, again, not just in California, but across the country and save our democracy.’

Siebel Newsom then parroted liberal lines about championing diversity when asked why she and her husband are seen as a threat to the Republican Party.
‘It’s really exciting to be in California. Diversity is our secret sauce. It’s what my husband and I stand for and represent and champion. And so I guess in that regard, we’re a threat to the GOP,’ she said.
In June, the 58-year-old governor announced on social media that he and his wife, 52, are the subjects of an ongoing investigation.
Newsom blasted the effort as ‘politically motivated’ and a bid to end his rumored 2028 presidential ambitions and has enlisted the help of top Washington litigator, Abbe Lowell to represent him and his wife.
Lowell indicated that the investigation, believed to have stemmed from whistleblower complaints about possible tax issues tied to his wife’s nonprofits, may be ramping up behind the scenes.
There are multiple federal investigations underway regarding the governor, a person with knowledge of the probe previously told the Daily Mail.
Lowell, who started his own firm in 2025, has made a name for himself by representing some of Washington’s most powerful politicians.
His list of high-profile clients has mushroomed during Trump’s second presidential term, amid a spike in what critics have panned as a string of politically motivated criminal prosecutions brought against some of Trump’s most prominent public foes.

It is unclear what, exactly, the Justice Department is investigating in the case of Newsom and his wife, Jennifer. The two have reportedly retained Lowell in a personal capacity.
The Justice Department has not publicly commented on the matter.
Siebel Newsom has become a lightning rod for criticism after a string of public appearances in which she criticized wealthy elites, scolded reporters, and delivered remarks that GOP critics say perfectly encapsulate what they view as the smug detachment of the Democratic political class.
GOP operatives, activists, and conservative commentators are now openly urging her to step in front of cameras more often, convinced that every unscripted remark is political gold.
Their delight reached new heights this week after Siebel Newsom delivered a withering critique of wealthy tech leaders who have gravitated toward Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
Her remarks quickly spread across social media as critics pointed to her own life of immense privilege.
‘It’s incredibly disheartening and disturbing. It’s very confusing,’ she said when asked about what some observers have described as tech’s political shift to the right.
‘When you spend too much time in your bubble of wealth and perhaps in your limited perspective where you only interact at the same economic ilk until they’re actually employed by you, I think that’s a really dangerous place.’
