Today Show Intruder Arrested After Alleged Craig Melvin Incident

An intruder is in custody after attempting to access the Today studios.

The New York Police Department arrested a “disorderly person” inside 30 Rockefeller Center, where the morning show is taped, just after 9 a.m. on July 16, a spokesperson for the department confirmed to E! News.

Officers responded and placed an unidentified individual into custody,” the statement added. “There were no injuries reported. The investigation remains ongoing.”

Multiple outlets have reported that the detained individual allegedly asked for Al Roker, managing to evade security on site. The person then enterted “an unauthorized area in a vestibule near Studio 1A” and approached Roker’s co-host Craig Melvin, a representative for Today confirmed to E! News.

Today is cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate the matter,” the outlet added. “NBC and Today take the safety and security of our employees, talent, staff and guests extremely seriously. We are reviewing the incident and our security protocols and remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone who works at and visits our studios.”

E! News has also reached out to reps for Melvin but has not yet heard back.
