Jude Bellingham appeared to be frustrated with Jordan Pickford at the manner of how Argentina equalised during England’s abject World Cup exit.

The Three Lions were beaten 2-1 by the holders in the semi-final as they were punished for their dismal defensive mindset when leading.

After Anthony Gordon put England ahead on 55 minutes, England head coach Thomas Tuchel later reverted to a back five and hope his side can shut out the reigning champions.

However, that plan backfired as Enzo Fernandez’s late long-range strike and Lautaro Martinez’s stoppage-time header saw Argentina win and setup a showdown with Spain on Sunday.

Fernandez’s goal came in the 85th minute and upon replay question marks began whether or not Pickford should have saved it.

And judging by Bellingham’s reaction, he felt his team-mate should have done better too.

Watching a replay of the goal on screen at Atlanta Stadium, Bellingham was filmed mouthing to himself: ‘It’s in the middle of the goal!’.

The England midfielder’s reaction was also echoed by former right back Gary Neville who said on the Stick to Football World Cup Watch Party: ‘Not gone in the corner, that, he’s got to save that. Got to save it. He’s past it.’

As Argentina’s celebrated wildly at full-time, they also discovered Pickford’s penalty ‘cheat sheet’ water bottle.

The England No 1 left his bottle unattended as he trudged off the pitch and video shows Lionel Messi and Co reading Pickford’s notes.

Shown to them by an Argentina backroom staff member, substitute Nico Gonzalez is the first to read it before Messi and then Fernandez view it.

Messi’s notes detailed that Pickford would ‘fake’ to dive left before going to his ‘right’ – something that Marco Senesi, who has been in the Premier League for the past four seasons, translates back to him.

Fernandez can be shown having a wry smile too as he reads Pickford’s instructions about his spot-kick which state for the goalkeeper to ‘stand central’.
