New information about Blake Garrett’s passing has been brought to light.
Nearly five months after the How to Eat Fried Worms star’s sudden death at age 33, an autopsy performed by the Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and obtained by E! News July 14 shows he died of acute fentanyl toxicity, or an accidental overdose.
At the time of his passing, Garrett was residing in a sober living house in Tulsa, Oklahoma the autopsy confirmed. The manner of his Feb. 8 death has been ruled an accident.
Garrett’s mother Carol Garrett previously told TMZ that she believed his death was an accident. She noted to the outlet that her son had been living a “really good life” over the last several years and had turned his life around after becoming sober three years ago.
However, Garrett’s mom noted that his death was preceded by a visit to the emergency room for intense pain, at which point he was diagnosed with shingles. She expressed belief to the outlet that her son might have self-medicated to deal with the pain caused by the viral rash.
