Key Updates

Pat Cash: ‘Short rallies will be key for Sinner’

Speaking on the BBC’s coverage of today’s final, Australian tennis legend Pat Cash said:

I think Sinner has struggled through the tournament a little bit. He said he’s finding his way, he decided not to play a lead-in tournament and the first match, first round, he was in a bit of trouble. Two sets to one down and found a way and that’s what you’ve got to do. You’ve got to find your way through and be tough.

The forehand was inconsistent. He has a quite extreme grip that it’s hard to co-ordinate, takes a little while to co-ordinate on a grass court when the ball is skidding faster and lower than normal, but he’s found his way. When he came to the semi-final, he just found his range.

Now I don’t think the temperature is going to affect him because the rallies are going to be short. There’s going to be a lot of big serves and unreturned balls. So there’s not going to be long, hard rallies that’ll get him tired. I think he’s trying to come up with a solution. I don’t think he was feeling particularly well when he just completely collapsed at the French Open. I’m sure he’s feeling a lot better.

Arthur Fery meets Kate!

Young Arthur Fery must surely be wondering when he’s going to wake up from the dream he’s been living for the last few weeks.

Prior to this summer’s grass season, I think we’d all be lying if we tried to argue that we’d heard his name before. Now, it’s known in virtually every household across the country.

The Brit’s run to the semi-final was truly spectacular – and now he’s been rewarded with the opportunity to meet Kate Middleton.

You have to say, the 24-year-old looks pretty pleased with himself.

Rewind a year…

It was exactly 365 days ago that the last Wimbledon final took place – and what a match it was.

Sinner bounced back from an early setback that day against Carlos Alcaraz to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 and lift his maiden Wimbledon trophy.

Could the Italian make it two-in-two today?

A pairing to suit the occasion

There is, arguably, no bigger date on the tennis calendar than the Wimbledon final and, today, the two players competing are worthy of featuring on such an occasion.

No 1 seed Jannik Sinner and No 2 Alexander Zverev have breezed their way to the final and, in this week’s semi-finals, showed their dominance.

Italian Sinner demolished Novak Djokovic on Centre Court on Friday while Zverev held his nerve to beat underdog and fan-favourite Arthur Fery earlier in the day.

But it all comes down to this and, given Sinner has won his last nine matches against Zverev, there’s one clear favourite.

The Princess has arrived

The Prince and Princess of Wales were pictured strolling through the grounds of Wimbledon earlier today ahead of this afternoon’s final.

Kate Middleton, donning a green dress, seemed in great spirits and offered a wave to well-wishers as walked along a balcony with the rest of her family.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte are also in attendance.
