A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman in her 60s was found dead in a house.
Police were called to Ivylea Road in Burnage, south Manchester this morning following reports of an assault.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and a murder investigation was launched by detectives.
A police car could be seen along the residential street this evening, with witnesses describing a major emergency service presence at a house throughout the day.
The victim was the grandmother of the suspect and died following a cardiac arrest, the Mail understands.
The teenager remains in custody to be questioned.
Greater Manchester Police said: ‘Officers responded to reports of an assault at an address on Ivylea Road, Burnage at around 8am today.
‘One woman aged in her 60s sadly died at the scene and a boy, aged 16, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody for questioning.’
Burnage lies four miles south of Manchester city centre and is a mainly residential area with mostly semi-detached houses.
