Resurrection season 2 details have finally been confirmed

In summer 2025, Dexter fans could finally experience the long-awaited return of their favorite vigilante serial killer with a penchant for dark brilliance and deadpan humor. The hit crime thriller Dexter: Resurrection was quickly renewed for another season, and now, the mouth-watering details of season 2, which looks to be another adrenaline-fueled thrill ride, have been confirmed by Paramount+ with Showtime.

The OG series has seen multiple spin-offs—the first arriving in 2021with Dexter: New Blood and the second in winter 2024 with Dexter: Original Sin. While both drew great attention, they were not renewed. This means that Resurrection is the first Dexter spin-off to return for multiple seasons. Here’s everything we know about Dexter: Resurrection season 2.

The plot of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2

The bloody saga continues

Season 2 will further Dexter’s (Michael C. Hall) bloody saga by introducing us to new killers and enemies, a new thrill ride, and the return of key characters from season 1.The official description for the upcoming season tells us that season 2 will find Dexter caught between two killers. One is the notorious New York Ripper, and the other is The Five Borough Killer, who is busy terrorizing New York in ways similar to the Zodiac Killer. Our titular character will also battle his greatest enemy yet, a midlife crisis, while Harrison continues his own pursuit of justice. Expect this father-son duo to face their darkest chapter together.

In a recent interview with Gold Derby, Hall also teased a time jump of sorts.

“We’ll see Dexter on the other side of this crazy encounter he had with all the killers presented to him by the magical, very dark world that [was provided]. As he becomes more human, or more integrated with the light and the dark, or the human and the monster, [Dexter] falls victim to all-too-human things in a way that he once didn’t. One of those is maybe a desire to be recognized, and that’s a tricky thing when your survival is dependent on hiding.”

Who is returning, and who is joining the cast?

Hold on to those spatter goggles, because we have some exciting cast news. Clearly, Hall will reprise his role as our anti-hero, and Jack Alcott will return as his son, Harrison. James Remar will also return as Dexter’s ghost dad-turned-voice of conscience, Harry Morgan.

Additionally, Uma Thurman will return as former special ops officer-turned-hired enforcer Charley, Kadia Saraf (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) as Detective Claudette Wallace, and Dominic Fumusa (Nurse Jackie) as her partner Melvin Oliva, and Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (The Chi) will return as Blessing Kamara. OG series fans will be happy to know that Desmond Harrington will return as Detective Joey Quinn, and he’ll be a series regular.

Newcomers include Brian Cox (Succession), who will star as The New York Ripper, Don Framt, and Dan Stevens (Legion), who will star as The Five Borough Killer, Owen Stark. Also joining the cast are Bokeem Woodbine (Spider-Man: Homecoming), who will play a bulldog homicide captain, and Nona Parker Johnson (Law & Order: Criminal Intent), who will play his daughter, who is training in the homicide unit. She is slated to be Harrison’s new love interest.

The biggest news, though, comes in the recently confirmed news that fan favorite Krysten Ritter is being resurrected to return as a guest star. Season 1 saw her play Mia, aka Lady Vengeance, a sommelier by day and serial killer by night, but — spoiler alert! — she was killed in jail. Who she will play in season 2 is being kept tightly under wraps, but it’s worth noting that bringing back the dead is not uncommon for the franchise.

When will Dexter: Resurrection season 2 be released?

The current production schedule suggests fall 2026

As much as fans are dying to know when Dexter: Resurrection season 2 premieres, we are dying to tell you. However, as of this publishing, an official release date has not yet been announced. We do know, though, that production is well underway.

In April 2026, Hall announced via Instagram that the filming ball had begun rolling, and an exciting thrill ride is planned. Though production on season 2 started 3 months later than production on season 1, the post-production schedule suggests a fall 2026 release, with October standing out as a strong option.

Season 1 recap

The Dark Passenger awoke evolved

In the long-awaited sequel’s premiere, fans watched intently as Dexter awoke from a coma after being shot in the chest by his son, who immediately fled and vanished. While in the hospital, the law caught up with Dexter, as Captain Angel Batista (David Zayas) appeared to let his old friend know he is suspected of being the Bay Harbor Butcher. Dexter responded by escaping to New York, where he found Harrison under investigation for committing a crime of passion. We also learned that Dexter’s Dark Passenger had evolved. For the first time in his career, he put everything at risk to save someone rather than kill them. It was a huge turning point for him.

Season 1 also introduced us to Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage), a billionaire venture capitalist with an obsession for collecting serial killers. It’s no surprise, then, that Dexter finds himself smack-dab amidst a two-week-long Murder-Con of sorts, cultivated by Prater. By the season’s end, just as we think Dexter’s thrill ride is slowing down, we learn it’s actually just heating up. Don’t worry, though — we won’t spoil all the details.

The future of Dexter: Resurrection

Whether Paramount will renew the show for a third season will likely be determined by season 2’s viewership numbers. Season 1 quickly broke viewership records to become Showtime’s most-streamed series premiere on Paramount+. Will season 2 do the same? We are hopeful, but fans will have to wait and see.

Dexter: Resurrection season 1 is currently available to stream in picture-perfect format on Paramount+ with Showtime. Before watching, though, be sure you’re getting the most out of your viewing experience.
