Roman Polanski & John Cassavetes Titles Among Lineup

This year’s Venice Classics lineup will debut 19 restorations, including Cul-de-sac (1966), one of Roman Polanski’s British films, restored by Fixafilm. Scroll down for the full list of titles.

Other films set for Venice Classics include a restoration of Tinto Brass’ London-shot 1967 pop thriller Deadly Sweet starring Jean-Louis Trintignant and Ewa Aulin, which will serve as the festival’s pre-opening screening. Elsewhere, John Cassavetes’s Minnie and Moskowitz, which screened at the 1966 Venice Film Festival, has been restored by Universal and will also screen this year as part of Venice Classics.

Director Daniele Vicari will chair the Jury of Film Students, which, for the thirteenth year,  will award the Venice Classics prizes for Best Restored Film. The Jury will be composed of 24 students, each of them recommended by professors of film studies from various Italian universities, DAMS, and from Ca’ Foscari University in Venice.

Maggie Gyllenhaal will preside over the official Venice competition. She will be joined by Tunisian director and screenwriter Kaouther Ben Hania; the English composer and artist Daniel Blumberg; the Italian professor Francesco Casetti; the French director and screenwriter Xavier Giannoli; the Afghan director and screenwriter Shahrbanoo Sadat; and the Hong Kong director and producer Johnnie To.

The 83rd Venice International Film Festival runs from 2 to 12 September 2026.
