Vanished Republican congressman Tom Kean Jr has reappeared at his home in New Jersey 113 days after he was last seen in DC.

A New York Times reporter rang Kean’s doorbell around 8.45pm Wednesday after seeing him standing inside his home through a well-lit window.

Kean, whose wife Rhonda was reportedly in the background, told the reporter from his door: ‘It’s good to see you.’

‘I’ll talk to you next week,’ he added. ‘Thank you.’ 

Kean has missed more than 100 floor votes since was last seen in public on March 5.

Kean, the 57-year-old son of the former governor who has served in Congress since 2023, has been cryptic about his long-term absence from Capitol Hill. 

His aides said he was being treated for a health condition and claimed he would make a full recovery, but gave no further details.

A spokesperson last week said Kean is expected to return to Congress on June 30 and will be ‘fully transparent’ about his situation then.

Kean currently represents New Jersey’s 7th congressional district, a key target for Democrats in this year’s midterm elections.

Kean was last seen on Capitol Hill on March 5. He spoke at a committee hearing and voted in support of funding President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.

His neighbors in Westfield, New Jersey told the Times that there had been ‘no obvious sign’ of Kean for months.

Locals in Fishers Island, New York, where the Kean family’s large estate is, said they have not seen him. 

And his family’s vacation home in Bay Head, along the Jersey Shore, was also reportedly shuttered ahead of Memorial Day. 

The lawmaker has previously hinted at being sidelined by a medical issue, and in a statement earlier this month, said he planned to ‘transition from virtual work to in-person work within a matter of weeks.’

He also noted that he understood the need for clarity about his condition, promising ‘complete transparency.’ 

Despite his absence, Kean has reportedly been buying and selling stocks, and introducing remarks into the Congressional record. 

He also urged his colleagues to oppose Ireland’s effort to limit trade with Israel, the newspaper reported. 

Republican leaders in his district’s six counties have also reported having received calls from Kean throughout his absence.

Senior GOP staffers and lawmakers who spoke with Punchbowl News in May said they had received little to no information about Kean’s condition or whereabouts. 

When asked by NBC News when Kean planned to return, Speaker Mike Johnson acknowledged ‘I don’t know.’

A spokesperson for Kean told Punchbowl that there was ‘absolutely nothing to worry about’ concerning his boss, adding that ‘He will be 100 percent healthy and is excited to get back to work.’

Kean, in a post made to his congressional campaign’s social media page in late April, said that he was dealing with an unspecified ‘personal medical issue’ that he expects to recover from.

‘My doctors continue to assure me that my recovery will be complete and that I will be back to the job I love very soon,’ Kean said in the statement. ‘I expect to return to a full schedule and be at 100 percent.

Kean has resisted disclosing a specific illness as the reason for his absence.

‘I take my responsibilities seriously and have a strong record of showing up and delivering, which makes this absence all the more difficult,’ he continued.
