For example, while giving separate interviews on the red carpet in Rome yesterday, Tom hilariously interrupted Zendaya’s conversation with a Capital reporter to ask her the name of a particular ice-cream spot in the city.
The moment was very sweet and has over 270,000 likes on Instagram, with some saying it was giving adorable “old couple” energy. However, what people can’t stop talking about is the fact that Tom didn’t refer to Zendaya by her first name, but instead, got her attention by shouting “Maree.”
If you’re confused, Maree is Zendaya’s middle name, with her full name being Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman (now maybe Holland?). Maree is also Zendaya’s mom’s middle name, too.
From what I can recall, we’ve never heard Tom publicly call Zendaya by this name. And it’s safe to say that fans picked up on it very quickly and are obsessed with this very rare insight into their notoriously private relationship.
The speed with which she responded to “Maree” suggests it’s probably normal for Tom to call her that. And as for why? One fan speculated that it could be “a way to get her attention while they’re out in public because everyone else will be calling out Zendaya.”
“Maybe he calls out Maree because too many people are calling out Zendaya,” echoed someone else in the IG comments. “She knows it’s Tom and her name. Like similar to kids calling out their parents’ name, instead of Mum or Dad, in a crowded space.”
