An R-rated sci-fi thriller from the director of Pirates of the Caribbean just hit #1 on Disney+ ‣ Diverse Daily

Sci-fi film fans have had a good year so far in 2026 with movies like Iron Lung, Project Hail Mary, and the recently-released Disclosure Day all capturing our collective imagination about what the future could look like. However, there is one movie even the most obsessed sci-fi fan may have missed this year.

Released back in February, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is the first movie in a decade from Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski. While initial reactions to the film were positive, it unfortunately landed with a thud at the box office, earning just $9.3 million worldwide against a budget of $20 million.

However, it seems like Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die has found a new life on Disney+ and Hulu. The movie quickly rocketed to the top of each service’s top movie charts earlier this week, just a few days after making its streaming debut on June 19. A timely film about the dangers of AI

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die stars Sam Rockwell as a man from the future who time travels to a pivotal moment inside a Los Angeles diner where he believes he can take drastic action to prevent a dystopian future where society has collapsed due to the pervasive use of AI technology. The sci-fi film then takes a dark, violent turn that some may find surprising, but helps explain the movie’s R-rating.

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die received mostly good reviews when it was released earlier this year, notching an 81% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes with the site’s Critic’s Consensus reading “A gleeful high-concept comedy with a serious message at its core, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die lets Sam Rockwell rip with thrilling results while marking a very welcome return of director Gore Verbinski in peak form.”

Though it wasn’t a hit when it came out, the film’s timely message and unique twist seem to have helped it garner more positive word of mouth in the months since release, and it will be interesting to see how long this movie dominates both Disney+ and Hulu’s top streaming charts.
