An American man has died after being pulled from the water at a popular beach.
The man, in his 40s, was spearfishing with a man, 20, when they became caught in a rip at Shelly Beach in Manly, on Sydney’s northern beaches, at 2.50pm on Tuesday.
Emergency services were called to the scene and found the American man unconscious.
Paramedics performed CPR on the man, but he later died in hospital.
The other man was uninjured.
Investigations are continuing.
