Lionesses star Ella Toone has been celebrating her recent engagement in style in Ibiza alongside her England team-mates and other women’s football players.
Toone announced her engagement to boyfriend Joe Bunney last summer, days after England clinched a back-to-back Euros crown by defeating Spain in Switzerland.
Now Toone has returned to the scene of their engagement, Ibiza, Spain, to celebrate her upcoming nuptials alongside her close friends and family, including fellow Lioness stars Alessia Russo, Lauren Hemp and Georgia Stanway.
Former England goalkeeper Mary Earps, who has been linked with a return to the WSL this summer with London City Lionesses, was also in attendance.
The bikini-clad group were spotted enjoying themselves at Wayne Lineker’s (Gary Lineker’s brother) beach club, with its distinctive yellow umbrellas, before partying the night away at Ushuaïa on the famous party strip.
Toone, who has spoken frequently in the past of her affinity for the party island, shared pictures online with the caption: ‘The best hen with all my favourite people. Ibiza I (love) you. Bring on the wedding!! Shoutout to the best MOH in the business … what would I do without you (Russo)’.

The group also ran into darts star Nathan Aspinall, a Manchester United fan, who was there celebrating his stag do. He posted pictures online of himself alongside Toone with the caption: ‘Stag and hen together. Git up Manchester’. He also shared a picture with Earps, writing ‘England legend’.
The likes of big-name DJs Calvin Harris, David Guetta and Swedish House Mafia all have residencies at Ushuaïa.
It seems that Toone’s hen do was not the only attraction in Ibiza, with Lionesses captain Leah Williamson also sharing photos from the island alongside other England stars such as Keira Walsh, Alex Greenwood and Jess Park.
Hemp, who helped Man City clinch a domestic double this season, replied to Toone’s post: ‘Thanks for the unofficial inviteeee’.
Both venues have become synonymous with English sporting royalty, with Chelsea forward Cole Palmer only a fortnight ago spotted sharing a drink with Wayne Lineker at the beach club after missing out on England’s World Cup squad selection.
Ahead of England’s recent World Cup qualifiers against Spain and Ukraine, Russo hailed the return of best friend Toone to the Lionesses camp after nearly half a year spent on the sidelines.
‘I’m so happy. I was telling her for weeks that I couldn’t wait to see her. She’s my comfort blanket in camp and I missed her when she wasn’t here,’ she said.
‘Everyone kept asking me if I was OK, and I was fine, but it is nice to have her here and she’s worked so hard to get back. Injuries are rubbish and I think she’s really matured over the last year or two, but within her body over the last six months or so.’

Asked about her maid of honour duties, Russo replied: ‘The hen do is all ready to go. We’ll get these two big games out of the way and then we’ll let our hair down.’
Toone has been inspiringly candid about dealing with the loss of her father, Nick, in September 2024 from cancer.
The day after Toone scored in England’s 2–1 win over Germany in the 2022 European Championship final, Toone had no idea her dad had just been diagnosed with prostate cancer, as he had only told his wife and brother.
‘He didn’t want anyone worrying about him,’ she told the BBC. ‘He wasn’t well throughout the tournament. I’m finding out more and more about it now that he’s not here.’
It was not until the day after her Manchester United team won the FA Cup final at Wembley in May 2024 that she learned he was ill. He died in September 2024, and the following day she returned to training.
‘I went straight back into football because I knew that’s what he would have wanted,’ she said.
‘I started the first game at Old Trafford. It was really difficult, but I felt like that’s what I needed to do in that moment. I needed to play; I couldn’t just be sat around moping about, thinking about it all the time. I knew he would have been there and been watching.’
It wasn’t until November, when she suffered a calf injury, that she realised it was her body ‘telling me to stop’. She returned by scoring a stunning long-range strike against West Brom – later voted the 2024-25 Goal of the Season – where she pointed to the sky in dedication to Nick.

Toone has also credited the support of her fiancé Bunney with helping her through her grief, describing him as a ‘rock’ for her family.
Bunney has helped take on Nick’s dream of setting up a girls’ football academy, ET7, when his own playing career came to an end in 2025.
‘The academy brought us together, even though it is very stressful,’ she added. ‘I think his hard work goes unnoticed, but definitely not by me.
‘Setting up the academy is part of dad’s legacy. He loved being part of something that he knew would help young girls have opportunities.’
Toone was last year awarded an MBE for her services to football. Her fellow Lionesses, Russo, Hannah Hampton, Chloe Kelly, Michelle Agyemang, Lauren James, and Jess Carter have this week also received the award for their role in helping England retain their Euros crown last summer.
