Surrey Schools has launched the second installment of its four-part video series focused on accessibility. The latest release addresses the concept of barriers and their impact on individuals with disabilities. The video was developed by the district’s accessibility working group and advisory committee. At its core, the initiative aims to foster a shared understanding of how barriers — whether physical, sensory, or attitudinal — can hinder full participation in everyday activities for people with disabilities.
In its video, Surrey Schools highlights real-world examples, such as inaccessible buildings, lack of assistive technologies, and societal stigma. While the video educates viewers on the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, it also emphasizes the importance of identifying and removing these obstacles.
The series is part of Surrey Schools’ broader accessibility plan, which includes gathering community feedback to inform initiatives and ensure new facilities are designed to be barrier-free from the outset.
