Killer teen Karmelo Anthony shows NO emotion as court is played harrowing 911 call of Austin Metcalf’s final moments, leaving athlete’s family and friends in tears: Live updates

Karmelo Anthony showed no emotion on Thursday as jurors listened to the distressing 911 call made in the moments after student-athlete Austin Metcalf was fatally stabbed.

Anthony, now 19, is standing trial for Metcalf’s murder and has maintained that he acted in self-defense during the deadly pocketknife attack at a track meet in Frisco, Texas, in April 2025.

The two teenagers, both 17 at the time, became embroiled in a dispute over seating at the Centennial High School athletics meet. Prosecutors contend the stabbing was an unjustified ‘sneak attack,’ while the defense argues Anthony feared for his safety.

Emotional testimony began Thursday after the attorneys delivered competing opening statements in Collin County. Several jurors were seen crying as the court was shown a photo of Metcalf’s lifeless body at the football stadium.

The trial, which is expected to last about two weeks, has drawn significant political scrutiny, with racially charged demonstrations calling for Anthony to ‘walk free.’

A panel of 12 jurors and six alternates was selected after roughly 600 prospective jurors were questioned during a selection process that began Monday. No black jurors were seated on the final jury.

Stone-faced Karmelo Anthony listens to harrowing 911 call

The 911 call made after Karmelo Anthony stabbed Austin Metcalf was played in court on Thursday.

The call was made by Coach Joshua Rebmann, football coach at Liberty High School in Frisco, Texas, who was at the track meet.

Redmann told the operator that an athlete had been stabbed and was not breathing as people yelled in the background.

The coach could then be heard yelling, ‘Stay with me, Austin! Stay with me, Austin!’

Rebmann said he made the comment as he watched Metcalf’s eyes roll back in his head.

His last breath could then be heard in the recording.

As the phone call was played in court, Metcalf’s mother could be seen leaning forward in her seat, head down, as others in the gallery cried.

Metcalf’s father was also seen wiping away tears with a handkerchief.

But Anthony displayed no emotion as he looked straight forward and down.

Anthony has admitted to stabbing Metcalf, but claims it was in self-defense.

Court is set to resume on Friday at 9am CT/10am ET.

Jurors will see footage of the horrific incident as evidence in the murder trial of Metcalf’s killer, Karmelo Anthony.
