A much-needed feature was just confirmed for the Apple TV 4K

Apple hasn’t officially announced a new Apple TV 4K yet, but it is gearing up for its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC26), where it’s expected to unveil its latest software initiatives, including its long-awaited AI-powered revamp of Siri and new operating system updates such as tvOS 27, iOS 27, and macOS 27.

While WWDC doesn’t kick off until June 8, Apple has already offered a preview of some of the new accessibility features it’s been working on. One of those is a new Apple TV display feature called Larger Text, which is designed to make on-screen text much easier to read.

As the name suggests, Larger Text lets you increase the size of the text on your Apple TV, making it much easier to read. For users with low vision, or for anyone who sits farther from their TV, it’s a feature that can make a noticeable difference.

Apple has already shown off the feature in action, and it includes multiple text size options to choose from. As you can also see in the comparison image below, the difference is quite dramatic. The default Apple TV text size is fairly small, but increasing it with Larger Text makes menus and on-screen information significantly easier to read.

There is one major caveat, though: Larger Text only works with apps that support Apple’s Dynamic Type text framework. That means it will work throughout the tvOS interface and in Apple’s own apps, such as Apple TV, but not necessarily in every streaming app you download. For example, Netflix and Prime Video use their own proprietary tech for text, so this feature likely won’t have any effect there.

If you’re eager to try Larger Text, you’ll unfortunately need to wait, as Apple has only said it’s “coming to tvOS” and hasn’t provided an exact release date. However, with tvOS 27 expected to be unveiled at WWDC, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s included in that update, which is widely expected to roll out to Apple TV devices this fall.

A new Apple TV 4K might be coming soon

The wait is almost over, fingers crossed

Hopefully, another thing we’ll finally see from Apple this fall is a new Apple TV 4K. Apple released the current third-gen Apple TV 4K back in 2022, and rumors of a successor with an upgraded chipset (possibly the A17 Pro) have been circulating for quite some time.

Recently, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple has a new Apple TV set-top box “nearly ready to go,” with the main holdup reportedly being Siri. According to Gurman, Apple wants to launch the next Apple TV 4K alongside its revamped Siri experience and new Apple Intelligence features.

With that in mind, Apple is widely expected to roll out its upgraded Siri this fall as part of iOS 27. If that happens, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a new Apple TV 4K arrive around the same time or sometime afterward, potentially in late September or October.

As for Apple’s new Larger Text feature for Apple TV, it’s a long-overdue addition, and I’m excited to test it. I tend to sit farther back from my TV, so I’ll definitely use it to make the screen easier to read.
