When you think of free streaming apps, some of the big players that probably come to mind are The Roku Channel, Pluto TV, and Tubi. And while I enjoy using all three thanks to their thousands of free movies and TV shows, along with hundreds of live TV channels, one of my favorite free streaming apps lately has actually been Plex.
While Plex is best known as an app that helps you host and organize your own media server, one of the other tricks it has up its sleeve is that it’s also become a surprisingly large free streaming service. Plex started down that path back in 2019, and since then, it has added thousands of free movies and TV shows to stream, along with more than 600 FAST (free ad-supported TV) channels.
And just like The Roku Channel, Plex is constantly expanding its lineup. To kick off June, it’s doing exactly that by adding 15 new live TV channels that you can stream entirely for free (via Cord Cutter News).
Some of the highlights from Plex’s latest additions include Murdoch Mysteries, the popular detective series set in Toronto during the late 1800s and early 1900s; The Great British Baking Channel, where talented bakers compete to create the best desserts; and Documentary Plus, which features documentaries covering everything from history and science to nature.
Here are all 15 of the new channels Plex just added:
- A&E Alaska Troopers
- A&E Live PD Greatest Shifts
- beIN Sports Extra
- Cesar’s Pack Leader TV
- Documentary Plus
- Frightflix
- Heartland

How to watch these free channels and more on Plex
There isn’t a shortage of free content on Plex
If you want to check out any of the new free channels Plex has added, it’s pretty easy. First, if you don’t already have the Plex app, it’s free to download and available on most major streaming platforms and devices, including Roku, Google TV devices, Amazon Fire TV, Samsung TVs, LG TVs, Xbox, PlayStation, Android, and iOS.
To access Plex’s free live TV channels, head to the Live TV section of the app by selecting the “Live TV” option from the top menu. You’ll be taken to Plex’s live TV guide, which will feel familiar if you’ve used apps like Pluto TV or The Roku Channel. It’s essentially a traditional cable-style TV guide packed with free channels (as you can see in the image above).
From there, you can browse the guide to find the new additions or use the search function to jump directly to a specific channel.
You don’t need to have a Plex account to watch any of its free content.
With more than 600 free live TV channels available, Plex now rivals The Roku Channel in size, so there’s plenty to explore beyond the 15 new channels that were just added. Some of my personal favorites include the BBC Top Gear channel, the MLB Channel, and Classic Cinema by WBTV.
If you’re looking for even more free streaming options, The Roku Channel, Pluto TV, and Tubi are all worth checking out as well. Pluto TV and Tubi, in particular, are two of my go-to apps for free movies, as both offer a wide variety of titles across different genres, new and old. For example, you can find The Magnificent Seven (1960) for free on Tubi, and the original Indiana Jones trilogy for free on Pluto TV right now.
