IRS employees in one metro office has been plagued by a rat infestation so bad that employees have been sitting on their desks and one even quit her job.
Sydney Monger said she resigned from her role at the Internal Revenue Service after finding the infestation in the Chamblee, Georgia office intolerable.
She shared photographs and videos with WSB-TV showing rats scuttling around inside the building on Chamblee Tucker Road, north-east Atlanta.
Dead rats could be seen in some snaps, while droppings littered certain areas and some employees sat on top of their desks to avoid the carnage.
An IRS spokesman admitted to the Daily Mail that there is a problem in the building. They cited the building’s age and said they are actively working towards a solution.
Photographs of the building’s perimeter show rat traps scattered around as officials attempt to curb the problem.
However, Monger, who worked in the office for the past eight months, said the rodents are too big for the traps.
‘They’re just out and terrorizing everybody, running over people’s feet, falling out of ceilings,’ she said.

She said the problem escalated to this point last week, after seeing rats only occasionally previously.
‘After Memorial Day they just came out the woodworks. They were just everywhere. It’s hot, it stank, they’re pooping everywhere. It’s nasty,’ Monger said.

‘I’m scared to bring something back to my kids, you know?’ she said. ‘I got babies, I can’t be playing. There’s already viruses out there.’
The IRS said in a statement: ‘Like any large building in an urban environment, it can face pest-related challenges. The IRS is working to investigate and remediate the situation,’ they said.
The Daily Mail has contacted the IRS press department for comment.
Rats pose significant hazards to human health through the spread of diseases and they can also cause injury through bites.

They can spread the deadly hantavirus, an airborne disease which recently killed three people on board a cruise ship.
A total of 13 confirmed or probable hantavirus cases, including three deaths, have been linked to the ship, according to the World Health Organization.
The ship, which departed from Argentina in early April, was carrying more than 100 passengers and 61 crew members.
Rats can also spread leptospirosis, a bacterial infection that can lead to organ damage, and salmonellosis, a severe illness caused by rats contaminating food.
