Lace shorts: love them or leave them? Initially, I was on the fence, but the trend has really grown on me, especially as it has evolved into different interpretations, like longer lengths. And I know so many of you are loving it as well, so I figured it was time we had a chat! Today, much like my jean shorts review, I’m going to walk through my favorite styles, some alternative options, what to wear with them, and a few lace shorts outfit ideas, all from a millennial’s point of view.

Are Lace Shorts Still in Style in 2026?

If you’re also a millennial, you probably remember the lace shorts trend from the 2000s and 2010s. Back then, styles were typically very short, with layers of white or ivory lace stacked on top of one another and paired with an excessive amount of accessories (I’m talking infinity scarves, layered necklaces, and sky-high wedges – no matter how short the shorts were). Even in the 1970s, there were earlier versions of lace shorts with a more bohemian feel, often in crocheted styles paired with flowy tops.

So no, this trend isn’t exactly “new,” but what is new are the modern interpretations we’re seeing in 2026. Today’s lace shorts feel much more refined, with longer inseams, elevated fabrics, and minimalist styling. And while we started to see the early stages of this trend last year, it has become even more popular in recent months.

The Best Lace Shorts for Every Style

One of the best things about the growing popularity of lace shorts is the abundance of options currently available, from boho to preppy, there’s something for everyone. There are now great styles under $100, splurge-worthy pieces, longer lengths, and so much more. Here are a few of my current favorites for spring and summer.

Lace Shorts Under $100

There are so many great affordable options on the market right now. At the top of my list is this under-$60 pair, which comes in six colors from one of my favorite retailers. I also love that while these shorts are on the shorter side, they’re not the ultra-micro length I’ve been seeing from some brands.

For another great under-$60 option with a slightly longer length, check out these. I love the fun color! And lastly, this beautiful neutral pair is actually under $50.

Longer-Length Lace Shorts

Looking for longer-length styles? I’ve got you covered. I think these are by far the best longer-length lace shorts on the market. They give off a classic old money style vibe, which is still very much trending. This unique pair is also a very cool take on the trend, combining a more traditional pleated Bermuda short with a feminine lace trim.

And while these lace shorts aren’t necessarily longer, I do love that the lace isn’t a cutout, sheer style, which gives you a lot more coverage than some of the other options out there.

Investment Lace Shorts

There are quite a few investment-worthy lace shorts on the market right now. These are the types of pieces that come with a higher price tag but will hold up beautifully season after season. Some of my favorites are this style, this one, and this pair.

If you want a little something extra, perhaps a jacquard or a stripe, lucky for you, some of my favorite brands have recently released some really fun takes on this trend. I personally love this under-$50 striped lace short. I also think these jacquard lace shorts look super luxe for the price point.

Alternatives to Lace Shorts

While the trend has definitely grown on me, I know lace shorts aren’t for everyone. However, there are a few takes on this trend that might work for anyone still not fully sold on it.

One option is a great slip skirt with lace trim, which I personally love. There are some beautiful styles out right now, such as this stunning brown-and-blue skirt, this pastel beauty, and this very classic option.

Another trend that leans into the same peek-a-boo styling is sheer organza. Some of my personal favorites in this fabric include these longer organza shorts with sheer paneling and this easy pencil skirt at a great price.

Lace Shorts Outfit Ideas

One of the things I love most about lace shorts is their endless styling possibilities. Chances are, you don’t even need to buy anything new, instead, simply shop your own closet for ideas on what to wear with them.

For a casual look, you could pair lace shorts with a great pair of vintage-inspired sneakers and a soft, slouchy tee. Want something a bit dressier? Style the same pair with a silk cami, strappy summer sandals, and a luxe duster. The versatility really is incredible!

And while the styling possibilities are endless, I know it’s sometimes helpful to have a few specific outfit ideas laid out for inspiration. Here are three fun lace shorts looks to try this summer!

The Unexpected Jacket

Since lace shorts can be a bit revealing, it’s nice to balance the look with a bit more coverage on top. These neutral shorts would look excellent paired with this clean tweed jacket and these simple sandals.

Another similar option would be pairing these shorts with this safari jacket and these darling Mary Jane flats.

Adding Some Print

Almost all of the lace shorts on the market are solid, and as a print lover, I couldn’t resist pairing some of these pieces with a pop of print.

For example, these light blue shorts would look beautiful with this printed top and these matching flats. I love how the shoes and shorts pull out the touch of blue in the print.

And for a bit of added texture, you could pair the look with a raffia bag. This easy top-handle straw bag is currently on my wish list and would look fab with this outfit!

Dress It Down

Now let’s look at a different styling angle, dressing lace shorts down! While it’s fun to play dress-up for nights out, you can absolutely wear these styles on a daily basis for errands, lunches, and more.

These brown lace shorts would look uber-cool with this tie-dye slouchy knit. To keep the cool Cali vibe going, pair the outfit with these paracord sandals or this almost identical $20 pair. And to finish the look off perfectly, add this colorful tote.

A Modern Take on Lace Shorts

Whether you’ve already gone all-in on lace shorts or you’re just considering dipping your toes into the trend, I hope these styling tips and outfit ideas are helpful.
