The son of fashion giant Mango’s billionaire founder has shared a video of his father falling over claiming it proves he accidentally fell off a mountain when he died.

Jonathan Andic, 45, was arrested on suspicion of murder after his father, the 71-year-old Mango fashion brand founder Isak, fell almost 500ft to his death during a hike near Barcelona in December 2024.

He has since had his passport confiscated, been placed under a travel ban stopping him from leaving Spain and is obliged to appear in court weekly.

Jonathan’s defence team have now released a video showing his father falling on the way to a business lunch ten months before he died.

CCTV showed Isak walking towards three men waiting at a doorway before his knee buckled and he lost his footing.

After staggering forward with his head angled towards some stairs, two of the men intervened to break Isak’s fall.

Jonathan’s lawyers released the video to contest a judge’s statement that a lack of injuries to Isak’s palms ruled out an accidental fall.

Judge Raquel Nieto Galvan had cited police evidence which suggested marks on the ground where Isak fell to his death did not correspond to a trip or slip.

The defence said the Mango founder’s gonarthrosis in his knees explained ‘the reduction in reaction time during the fall’.

Ms Galvan previously said she had made Jonathan a suspect because of contradictions between his statements to court and what he said in the aftermath of his father’s death.

She said he had a ‘bad relationship’ with his father and an ‘obsession’ with money which saw Isak ‘compelled’ to accept financial requests ‘in order to continue having a relationship with his son’.

In a 17-page legal document released to the public after the 45-year-old posted €1million bail (£865,000), Ms Galvan claimed Jonathan had scoped out the mountain range before their walk.

The judge also claimed Jonathan had said the old iPhone 14 he was using when his father died had been stolen during a trip to Ecuador and he had erased its content when he switched terminals.

But investigators believe he deleted messages from his father and these were not recovered when he set up his new device.

Jonathan’s lawyer said he had requested a new phone two weeks after his father’s death but it had not been picked up until the theft because of ‘negligence’.

He has also been accused of making three visits to the Montserrat mountain where his father died in the week before Isak’s fall.

On December 10, four days before Isak’s death, police claimed Jonathan followed a route almost identical to that he took with his father.

Jonathan said this week he would ‘step away’ from Mango following his arrest.

In an open letter on Tuesday, he wrote: ‘I need to focus all my energy on proving my innocence,

‘The attention and focus necessary to my defense in the judicial process mean I cannot maintain the high levels of dedication required by my role in the company.’

In a different open letter sent to staff, Mango’s chief executive Toni Ruiz said Jonathan had decided to ‘temporarily’ move aside from his role as vice president.

Jonathan has always insisted his father’s death was an accident.

Born in Turkey before moving to Catalonia in northern Spain, Isak formed one of Europe’s biggest fashion empires with his brother Nahman in 1984.

Mango now operates in more than 120 countries with 2,800 stores and more than 16,000 employees.

His fortune was estimated at £3.3billion by Forbes.
