Whole Foods Market is strengthening its commitment to sustainability with the donation of its first electric food rescue vehicle, marking a pivotal step in its ‘Nourishing Our Neighborhoods’ program. Introduced in Austin, Texas, this initiative aligns with the company’s broader environmental goals by reducing emissions while enhancing food access.

Since 2020, Nourishing Our Neighborhoods has “provided 60 refrigerated vans to food rescue organizations across the U.S. and Canada.” With the introduction of its first E-Transit electric van, Whole Foods Market is accelerating its efforts to curb food waste and lower its carbon footprint. Moving forward, all newly donated vehicles will be electric, reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to reducing transportation-related emissions.

The E-Transit van, “equipped with a Level 2 charging station, was donated to The Johnson Center, an Austin-based nonprofit that rescues surplus food from Whole Foods Market’s Lamar and Bee Cave locations.”
