What is Star City about?

This new series is a spinoff of For All Mankind, which tells the story of an alternate history space race

Star City is unique as it is a spinoff of an existing series on Apple TV called For All Mankind. This show is an alternate history series that takes place in a world where the Soviet Union beats the United States to the moon. Because of this single change to the timeline, the space race never ends, leading to faster discoveries and eventually, colonization of Mars.

Though For All Mankind takes the perspective of the US side of this alternate history space race, Star City presents the same events from a different view, this time of the Soviet Union. Though For All Mankind watchers will know how major events of the series play out, what is exciting about Star City is how it uses what viewers already know to create a tense character-driven thriller where the stakes are impossibly high as the Soviets try not only to do the impossible when it comes to space exploration, but keep their wits about them and their secrets safe in the process.

Currently, the first two episodes of Star City are out on Apple TV. And if you like what you see, the series is continuing weekly with new episodes releasing each Friday until its season finale on June 10. The first season will have 8 total episodes, and given the critical response to its first two episodes, it seems likely that a second season will be commissioned at some point, though nothing has been confirmed by Apple just yet.
