Bonnie Tyler’s Health Updates After Hospitalization, Surgery


“Total Eclipse of the Heart” singer Bonnie Tyler experienced a recent health scare and had to undergo emergency surgery in Portugal.

Reps for the musician confirmed via Tyler’s website that she was on the mend following a May 2026 hospitalization.

“We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery,” a statement published on May, 6, 2026. “The surgery went well and she is now recuperating.”

The statement added, “We know that all of her family, friends and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.”

Bonnie Tyler’s Emergency Surgery Update

A representative for the chart-topping performer shared an update on her status in a statement to Entertainment Weekly on May 7.

“Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her Doctors to aid her recovery. We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time please,” manager Matt Davis told Entertainment Weekly at the time. “We will issue a further statement when we are able to.”

On May 12, 2026, Tyler’s team released a second statement via her website.

“As of this morning Bonnie remains seriously ill but stable in hospital in Faro, however her doctors are still positive that she will make a full recovery,” the statement read. “Bonnie’s family are very disappointed at the many lurid and untrue rumors now circulating in the media and would like to make it clear that Liberto Mealha does not represent them in any way whatsoever and is not in contact with them regarding Bonnie.”

Several outlets have shared additional reports regarding Tyler’s health, which appeared to be initially reported from a Portuguese news outlet.

“When there is any further news of Bonnie’s condition then we will issue another statement but ask that the media cease to speculate or publish wild rumors, which simply serve to upset her family, friends, and many fans, and ask again for privacy and decency at this difficult time,” the statement concluded.

Tyler’s reps have not shared additional details about the underlying health issue that led to the emergency procedure.

Inside Bonnie Tyler’s Upcoming Tour Schedule

Tyler’s tour schedule was planned through May 2026, with shows around Europe throughout the end of the month. She’s also set to appear at several music festivals during summer 2026.

Tyler’s website noted that following a September 2026 break, she’ll take the state again that October through December.

What’s Next for Bonnie Tyler?

Aside from her upcoming tour dates, Tyler continues to release new music. She released two singles — one in March 2026 and another the following month.

Her April 2026 song, “One World One Home,” was released as part of the Homeless documentary that same month.

The latter carries a meaningful purpose beyond the music. “One World One Home” was produced as part of the new documentary, which began streaming on most major platforms.

Tyler has released 18 studio albums, most recently 2021’s The Best Is Yet to Come. That same year, she made it crystal clear that slowing down wasn’t on her agenda.

“I’m doing all right. I’m quite fit for my age, thank God. And I’m never going to retire,” Tyler told The Sun in an interview. “I look at Tom Jones, he’s amazing. His voice is as strong as ever — and he’s got 10 years on me.”
