If Amazon isn’t worried about Onn yet, it should be. Onn, Walmart’s lineup of Google TV streaming devices, has been on a roll recently with new releases, including the Onn 4K Pro and its first-ever 4K streaming stick, the Onn 4K Streaming Device.
Both of these devices are serious contenders as Fire TV Stick replacements, with the Onn 4K Pro outperforming the Fire TV Stick 4K Max and the Onn 4K Streaming Device nearly on par with the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus. In particular, the Onn 4K Pro has proved so popular that it sells out instantly whenever it returns to stock on Walmart’s website.
Now, just weeks after launching its new 4K streaming devices, it looks like Onn has new another streaming stick on the way. This time, though, it’s aimed at entry-level 1080p streaming — and it might not actually be all that “new.”
As spotted by Reddit user kz00, a new FCC filing recently appeared for a new Onn Full HD Streaming Device, carrying the model numbers HP47R and HP4718.
However, unlike the FCC filings for the new Onn 4K Pro and Onn 4K Streaming Device, which indicated entirely new hardware and features, this filing for the Onn Full HD Streaming Device tells a different story.

This new Onn HD streaming stick is more of the same
It seems Onn is just switching manufacturers for it
Looking at the FCC filing for Onn’s new Full HD Streaming Device, it appears to be almost identical to the HD streaming stick Onn released in 2023. This includes the same Amlogic S805X2 chipset, 1.5GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage. So what exactly has changed? It appears to be just the manufacturer.
As AFTV News points out, this new Onn HD Streaming Stick appears to be made by Skyworth rather than SDMC, the company that typically manufactures Walmart’s Onn streaming devices. Because of that, there’s a good chance this “new” HD stick is really just Walmart switching manufacturers for its cheapest streamer to help keep up with demand.
Even though it’s sort of “new,” as AFTV News speculates, Walmart may end up selling this new HD stick in the exact same packaging and under the exact same product listing as the current model. So, if you’re browsing the product page, you’re not actually looking at a brand-new product at all — you’re still looking at the same Onn Full HD Streaming Device. The only difference is that you may not know whether you’re getting the older SDMC-made version or the newer Skyworth-made version.
That said, it likely won’t matter much either way, since both versions appear to be nearly identical internally and share the same specs.
For reference, Walmart’s Onn Full HD Streaming Device is the most affordable device in the company’s streaming lineup, priced at just $20. It supports 1080p streaming with HDR10+ and Dolby Audio, and it includes 8GB of storage, 1.5GB of RAM, and Wi-Fi 5. It also runs Google TV, making it easy to download your favorite streaming apps and even sideload third-party apps if you want to.
All in all, if you’re looking for a solid 1080p streaming stick for an older TV that’s not 4K, the Onn’s HD streaming stick is a pretty good deal. And if you’d rather avoid Amazon’s newer Fire TV Stick HD with Vega OS, which doesn’t support sideloading, Onn is probably the better option.
It’s unclear when this newer Onn HD stick might start showing up in stores, but given that it appears to be nearly identical to the current model, there’s little reason to wait for it specifically if you need an HD streaming stick. But if you’re looking for big upgrades, Onn’s newer 4K streaming stick and the Onn 4K Pro are the two options you’ll want to consider.
