A New York man is facing attempted murder and burglary charges after allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s house and stabbing her son.
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced in a press release on Friday, May 1, that Robert Schreiber, 42, was indicted in connection with the stabbing of his ex-girlfriend's 22-year-old son.
The D.A.'s office said that Schreiber’s long-term girlfriend broke up with him on April 17 and locked him out of her house in Patchogue, N.Y., located on the South Shore of Long Island. The next morning, Schreiber allegedly broke into the home at around 8 a.m. using an unlocked window while everyone inside was sleeping, authorities added.
"Schreiber allegedly proceeded to the victim’s bedroom, kicked in the door, and stabbed him seven times throughout his head, neck and shoulder," the D.A.’s office said. "The victim’s family members intervened and called 911, allowing the victim to escape down the stairs."

After police arrived at the scene, the victim — whose identity has not been made public — was taken by ambulance to NYU Langone Hospital, where he received "numerous staples to close his stab wounds," authorities said.
Officers arrested Schreiber at the scene, and investigators allegedly found the knife used in the attack in his possession.
“This was a violent attack on a young man in his own home,” Tierney said in the press release. “Domestic violence does not always end when a relationship does, it often escalates. We will aggressively prosecute this defendant and seek justice for the victim and his family.”

Schreiber faces a number of charges, including second-degree attempted murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree attempted assault, second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree harassment.
Schreiber is being held on $1,000,000 bond and is next set to appear in court on May 28. The D.A.'s office said he faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted of the highest charges.
