A young woman has died after falling from Mount Arapiles in Victoria while rock climbing.

The 24-year-old suffered critical injuries on Monday, forcing paramedics to use a helicopter to winch her from the rock face. 

She was rushed to hospital but died overnight.

Victoria Police Acting Senior Sergeant Dave McIvor said the death was being investigated by the coroner.

‘It’s unfortunate, these incidents on the rock happen from time to time, but it’s just sad when they do,’ he told reporters.
