Apple TV has really come into its own in recent years as the streaming home of prestige television, with hits like Severance, Slow Horses and Pluribus, all earning rave reviews and earning must-watch status. And while we haven’t had a zeitgeist-y hit from the service since the latter title wrapped up last year, it looks like Apple TV finally has its next must-watch series with the genre-bending Widow’s Bay, which is set to debut with its first two episodes this Wednesday, April 29.

What is Widow’s Bay about?
A horror-comedy with serious Stephen King vibes
Widow’s Bay is a new horror-comedy-suspense-thriller that follows the residents of a quaint island town off the coast of New England that just might be cursed, at least, if you ask the locals. However, new Mayor Tom Loftis (played by Matthew Rhys) is desperately trying to change this long-standing perception of Widow’s Bay, with the goal of ultimately making the island into a tourist destination. However, just as out-of-town folks begin showing up, supernatural things begin happening that just may prove the locals were right.
According to Apple’s official description, the series blends character-driven comedy with horror and suspense to make for what sounds like a unique series. And so far, it looks like critics agree because the series just notched a rare 100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, beating Pluribus’ 99% to become the highest-rated show on the service.
When are new episodes of Widow’s Bay coming out?
The ten-part series kicks off later this week
Following the premiere of the first two episodes of Widow’s Bay premiere on April 29, Apple TV will be releasing a single new episode every Wednesday. The series has ten total episodes, which means we’ll be biting our nails until June following the spooky goings-on in the eponymous town. It is currently unknown if there are any plans for additional seasons beyond the first, but if these early strong reviews are any indication, it seems likely that Apple has another hit on their hands.
