Michael, the new biopic about famed singer Michael Jackson’s life hits theaters this weekend, and though critics have largely panned the film (it currently holds a 40% Rotten average on Rotten Tomatoes), audiences are still expected to turn out in droves to check out this new take on the ubiquitous entertainer’s early life.
The film stars Michael Jackson’s real-life nephew, Jaafar Jackson in the title role and is directed by Antoine Fuqua, who is best known for directing Training Day and The Equalizer series of films. Rounding out the cast are Colman Domingo as Michael’s father Joe Jackson, Nia Long as Michael’s mother Katherine Jackson, and Miles Teller as lawyer John Branca.
Though the film hasn’t been out for long, distributor Lionsgate already has a plan for the film’s at-home debut, and if you’re looking forward to seeing Michael on the small screen, here’s how you can stream Michael at home as soon as it is released.

Pre-orders for Michael are already available on several major platforms
Currently the release date is TBD, but June seems likely
While we don’t have an at-home streaming date yet, Michael is now available to pre-order digitally on several major platforms, including Apple TV and Fandango at Home for $25. For those who would like a physical and digital copy, pre-orders for the film’s $35 4K Ultra HD Steelbook edition (which also includes a digital copy) are also live at Wal-Mart.
Currently, none of these pre-order pages contain a release date, but if the typical 45-day theatrical exclusivity window holds, we’d imagine that these digital editions will be available sometime in June.
When will Michael be free to stream on Amazon Prime Video?
Before the end of the year
If you’re patient, Michael will also be able to stream free for Amazon Prime Video subscribers before the end of the year. This is thanks to a deal Lionsgate has with Amazon that puts all of the distributor’s films on Prime Video exclusively following their debut on VOD platforms. Currently, we’d expect this to mean a late summer or early fall debut for Michael for Amazon Prime Video subscribers, assuming the film has a typical box office trajectory.
