A boxing champion who pleaded guilty to charges over two abductions is in a critical condition after he was shot multiple times in Sydney’s south-west. 

Police rushed to Campbell Hill Road in Chester Hill about 11.30pm on Wednesday after reports several shots were fired from a black ute.

The bullets hit a second vehicle before both cars fled the scene.

Just five minutes later, a 26-year-old man with gunshot wounds, identified as Humzah Khalid by The Daily Telegraph, arrived at Auburn Hospital.

On arrival to the hospital, officers discovered a Mercedes in the car park with several bullet holes and established a crime scene.

When officers attempted to speak to a 30‑year‑old man in the emergency department – understood to be a friend of the wounded boxer – the man allegedly assaulted the chief inspector unprovoked, repeatedly punching him in the head.

The 58‑year‑old officer, who has been in the force for 40 years, arrested the man with the help of hospital security.

The 30-year-old man was taken to Auburn Police Station and charged with assaulting a police officer in the execution of duty.

He was refused bail and will appear at Burwood Local Court on Thursday. 

The wounded officer was treated for cuts to his head.

Mr Khalid, who was known as ‘The Raging Bull’ during his time as an Oceania boxing champion, remains in a critical condition.

He previously pleaded guilty to kidnapping and detaining offences following two abductions in 2021, in which victims were held hostage during the planned attacks. 

During a press conference on Thursday, Detective Superintendent Rod Hart confirmed the victim of the shooting was ‘well known to police’.

‘From the information that I have two offenders dressed in black, wearing balaclavas, armed with a handgun, (fired) a number of shots into the car… It does have all the hallmarks of a gangland hit,’ he said, ABC News reports.

Meanwhile, NSW Police officers were injured in two other incidents across Sydney on Wednesday, with one taken to hospital following a pursuit in Bankstown. 

Police spoke to a 33-year-old man during a patrol at a hotel on Wednesday.

The man fled, prompting a chase onto a nearby road where both the man and an officer were struck by an oncoming SUV. 

Both were treated at the scene and the man was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition. Police later found drugs on the man and arrested him.

The officer involved was taken to hospital for assessment of leg and head injuries. The SUV driver did not suffer any injuries. 

In a third, unrelated incident, a policeman shot a driver after he became pinned between two cars during an attempted arrest.

The confrontation occurred at about 8.40pm on Wednesday, when a 39-year-old policeman stopped a car in traffic on Punchbowl Road in Greenacre. 

But as he approached the car, the driver accelerated, pinning the sergeant between two cars.

The officer fired his gun, hitting the car before it drove off. He was taken to hospital with lower leg injuries in a stable condition.

Less than an hour later, a 32-year-old man suffering a gunshot wound was seen limping along a street in Ryde, in the city’s north-west. 

Police found him and the abandoned car in the front yard of a home. He was taken to hospital in a stable condition, where he remains under police guard.
