Pixel phones undoubtedly offer one of the best Android experiences, but if there’s one issue that keeps cropping up, it’s battery trouble.

Google has previously had to roll out software updates for the Pixel 4a and Pixel 6a to address overheating battery concerns, and there were even reports of some Pixel 6a devices catching fire. Meanwhile, Pixel 7 users have flagged issues with swollen batteries.

Now, adding to the list, the April 2026 update for Google Pixel phones appears to be causing widespread battery drain for some Pixel owners, significantly impacting day-to-day battery life.

As 9to5Google points out, there have been hundreds of comments on Google’s Issue Tracker in recent days about the problem, along with numerous Reddit threads from frustrated Pixel users reporting their batteries draining unusually fast, in some cases even when their devices are idle.

“I am going crazy with this new battery problem since the latest update,” one Redditor wrote. “My Pixel 9a used to last all day — I usually went to bed with battery around 20%. Now suddenly I am always at 20% in the middle of the afternoon.”

What makes matters worse for Google is that this battery drain issue isn’t limited to a single device but affects all sorts of Pixel phones across different generations, from the Pixel 6 series to the Pixel 10 series.

As for what’s behind the issue, one user on Google’s Issue Tracker believes it stems from a bug introduced in the March update that persists in the April update. According to their findings, the bug prevents the CPU from entering “Deep Doze” — a low-power state that throttles performance and background activity when your device is idle to reduce battery usage.

Without Deep Doze kicking in, the CPU continues running at full power even with the screen off, leading to significant battery drain.

“Battery life has decreased significantly on Pixel 10 Pro here since the last update as well – getting about 1/2 the screen time from 80% charged compared to before,” one user on Google’s Issue Tracker wrote, while a Pixel 7a user commented, “Also experiencing excessive battery drain issue, even when leaving phone on battery saver mode 24/7, dropping over 50% in under 5 hours with intermittent use.”

Fortunately, Google is aware of the issue and is investigating, but there’s no timeline for when a potential fix will be rolled out. Given how dramatically this is affecting battery life for some users, hopefully, Google puts the pedal to the metal on this and gets a fix worked out and rolled out sooner rather than later.
