‘XO, Kitty’ Season 3 Star Duo Talk Kitty & Min Ho’s Relationship Arc

SPOILER ALERT: This post contains spoilers for Season 3 of Netflix’s ‘XO, Kitty.’

The wait is finally over as Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart) and Min Ho Moon (Sang Heon Lee) explore a romantic relationship in Season 3 of Netflix’s XO, Kitty.

Following quite the hopeful cliffhanger ending of Season 2 of the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before spinoff series, which involved Kitty asking to go with Min Ho on what could be a world K-pop tour, the pair experience quite a roller coaster of emotions in the first episode of Season 3, titled “Guest List.” Not to fret though, for those who want them to be together, because they share a cinematic kiss by the end.

“Because we knew the fans were so excited, we cared extra shooting those scenes and wanted to make sure it lived up to the anticipation and the expectation, especially with, episode one stuff,” Cathcart tells Deadline. “We really, really cared about it and wanted to make it as spot on [and] as special as we could. So I hope that it translated, and I personally can’t wait to see all their reactions.”

Lee echoes Cathcart’s sentiment.

“We care so much because we led it until this [point], so we just wanted to make it as magical as possible, as how the audience would expect,” he says. “Hopefully they’ll love it.”

Of course, a real relationship doesn’t come without its bumps in the road, and a complex pregnancy scare tangles up the heartstrings of Kitty and Min Ho later on in the season, leading them to break up because they can’t see eye to eye over what happens.

“The breakup scene was honestly one of our most intense scenes that we’ve ever really shot together, and one of the most intense scenes, emotionally, that our characters have ever really experienced on the show in general,” Cathcart, who calls it a favorite scene, says. “I remember that day was also super intense for us, just as actors. We were so locked in with headphones on in between takes. We want[ed] to both exist in our worlds and figure this out and really treat this carefully.”

Eunice’s (Han-Bi Ryu) pregnancy scare combined with Jiwon’s (Hojo Shin) positive pregnancy test caused a big rift between Min Ho and Kitty when it wasn’t clearly communicated that Eunice had slept with Dae (Minyeong Choi) and not Min Ho in Paris on her summer tour opening for Min Ho’s older brother. Min Ho doesn’t tell Kitty right away because Eunice asks him not to, and Kitty gets frustrated with that as well as with the idea that he didn’t keep his word that he wouldn’t be with anyone for the time he and Kitty were apart during the tour.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been in an argument with someone really intimate, other than my sister [Gia Kim, who plays Yuri]. We get into a couple of arguments here and there,” Lee says. “ But regarding Min Ho, the part where he just basically said, ‘You know what? I think that was the last straw. Enough, I’m done,’ and then he slowly tells himself that I realize it’s nothing [that] I’ve done. It’s about it’s all [Kitty]. [She] just [doesn’t] have any trust in me.’ He sort of breaks it down himself, [and] it is a little heartbreaking to see that moment for him.”

For Min Ho, the dealbreaker is that Kitty doesn’t trust him and thinks that he could be the baby’s father.

“It’s just heartbreaking for both characters, really. It was a really sensitive scene, but I think we did it well, right, Anna? Also, as a person, relating to him, I think I do that as well, where I try to analyze the situation before coming to a conclusion,” Lee adds. “It doesn’t mean it’s always a right conclusion, but I feel like that’s probably the part where I can relate to [him] most.”

Cathcart similarly empathizes with both sides.

“I do understand both their perspectives. I think Kitty has never been so scared to lose something, so that’s led her to be a lot more doubtful and insecure and overthink everything, but at the same time, I completely see why Min Ho’s so upset,” she says. “I think in my in my own life, it would hurt me so much to know that my person didn’t trust me and didn’t think the best of me, but rather expected the worst. I think that that’s a very real, hurtful moment. I totally felt for Mino in that moment, but it was a really fun scene to shoot.”
