Gavin Newsom’s wife Jennifer Siebel Newsom was blasted by conservatives after unearthing comments she made about taking her children to red states to learn about bullying, misogyny, and racism.
The ‘First Partner’ of California – whose husband has made no secret of his presidential ambitions – told Jen Psaki about the tour of the south she took her kids on in 2023.
‘I know for a fact that we don’t get all of this history in our schools, and it’s part of enlivening them, building their curiosity, expanding their hearts, their empathy,’ Newsom said.
Siebel Newsom – who called herself a ‘truth seeker’ – cited side trips to a civil rights museum in Mississippi and Central High School in Arkansas as her having ‘learned things [my] education hadn’t exposed me to’ at her public school and Stanford University.
She hoped that the trip would teach her children that they ‘can use their voices to stand up and speak out when they see pain and suffering and bullying and racism and misogyny.’
Conservatives lashed out at Siebel Newsom over the comments after they went viral on social media.
CNN’s so-called ‘black sheep’ Scott Jennings blasted the First Partner as ‘condescending’ on his radio show Monday.
‘The idea that we need to take our kids to Alabama — it’s the only way they’ll ever learn about racism — I mean, these people. They have no idea how they sound. There’s no self-awareness, absolutely nothing,’ Jennings said.

He added that Siebel Newsom would be a problem for her husband’s would be presidential campaign in 2028.
‘This lady, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, is gonna be a real problem for poor old Gavin. The condescension towards everyone else in America is so thick,’ he told listeners.
Jennings advised all Democrats, including Siebel Newsom, to ‘look inwards’ at their own problems.
‘Look inwards to these blue states where illegal immigrants are murdering American citizens because of your open border policies,’ he said.
The Daily Wire also jumped on the comments, calling Siebel Newsom a hypocrite who tried to take her children on a ‘racism safari.’
‘It was educational poverty tourism for the Bay Area set,’ they said.
Elsewhere, they also noted that hate crimes in California rose 141.7 percent since 2015, and up nearly nine percent, with anti-LGBTQ incidents up over 13 percent since 2024.
‘That is the state Siebel Newsom’s husband governs, with runaway hate crime statistics and a blatant failure of public safety,’ they added.

The outlet also took him to task over alleged homophobia toward South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham just this past week.
The Daily Mail has reached out to the governor’s office for comment.
Still, lingering questions about the tour’s effectiveness remain. In a podcast appearance last year with the late Charlie Kirk, her husband mentioned that his son was a big fan of the conservative Turning Point USA founder.
Kirk was fatally shot by an assassin at Utah Valley University in September.
Siebel Newsom’s past comments have come back to bite her frequently, including last week when a clip resurfaced in which she trashed Christians over traditional gender roles.
In a 2022 interview, she said ‘there’s so much to learn from same sex couples.’
‘We’re all on a spectrum, right? It’s just how society kind of push, pushes us and pressures us into these limiting gender roles,’ she said.
‘The folks on the far right … they’re living in this silo, this evangelical, conservative silo that ultimately is pulling us back as a country to a time and a place where we don’t deserve to be and we’re not going to be.’
She claimed that ‘young women and fathers of daughters are awake now, and they’re woke, and they’re not going to let us go back.’
Jennifer’s remarks were seized on by conservatives on Thursday as Gavin Newsom looks set to launch a bid for the White House in 2028, making frequent criticisms of Donald Trump and appearing at major events, such as the World Economic Forum.
Jennifer was raised in a household that previously supported Republican President, Ronald Reagan, and she herself was a registered Republican before changing to being a Democrat.
Gavin Newsom, a longtime champion of woke causes, has moderated some of his positions in recent months as he looks toward a widely anticipated presidential bid.
