If you’re looking for a new movie to watch, Netflix is consistently the streamer with the best overall selection.
There are some Netflix originals on the streamer’s top 10 chart, but the streamer’s most promising additions this year are all from other studios.
The Watch With Us team has narrowed down our selections to the three most popular Netflix movies right now that you need to watch.
Our picks include an action thriller, a coming-of-age film and a thriller that makes heights scary again.
‘Homefront’ (2013)
Sylvester Stallone doesn’t appear in Homefront, but he wrote the script and passed it on to his friend, Jason Statham, to star in the film. Statham plays Phil Broker, an ex-DEA agent who has left that life behind following a tragic incident that caused the death of a drug dealer’s child. Phil would rather focus on raising his own daughter, Maddy (Izabela Vidovic).
When Maddie has a fight with a boy at her school, it draws the attention of the boy’s criminal uncle, Morgan “Gator” Bodine (James Franco), and his girlfriend, Sheryl Marie Mott (Winona Ryder). It’s not enough for them to antagonize Phil or kidnap Maddy’s cat. They take things too far by letting Phil’s enemies know where he lives. If anything calls for a Statham-level butt-kicking, that’s it.
Homefront is streaming on Netflix.
‘Flipped’ (2010)
Flipped winds back the clock to the late ’50s and early ’60s as director Rob Reiner focuses on two children, Julianna “Juli” Baker (Madeline Carroll) and Bryce Loski (Callan McAuliffe). When Juli met Bryce when they were seven years old, she was instantly smitten with him. Bryce, however, isn’t old enough to appreciate a girl’s attention and keeps her at a distance.
When Juli and Bryce are in high school, his grandfather, Chet Duncan (John Mahoney), moves into the Loski family house and has a profound effect on both of them. At Chet’s encouragement, Juli and Bryce start broadening their horizons. But by the time Bryce realizes he has feelings for Juli, it may already be too late to act on them.
Flipped is streaming on Netflix.
‘Fall’ (2022)
If you think that climbing a 2,000-foot rusty old TV tower in the middle of nowhere is a bad idea, then you’re far too smart to be the main character in a film like Fall. This low-budget survival thriller struck a chord at the box office, and admittedly, the premise is terrifying.
Grace Caroline Currey stars as Becky Connor, a young woman who is grieving over the death of her husband, Dan (Mason Gooding). Becky’s best friend, Shiloh Hunter (Virginia Hardner), had the bright idea of convincing Becky to spread Dan’s ashes from the top of the TV tower before it gets demolished. One bad decision leads to another, and the next thing you know, both women are stranded on top of the tower. No one knows they’re there, and getting back to the ground without help might be impossible.
Fall will stream on Netflix on February 19.
