Trump Says Peace Agreement “Largely Negotiated” To End War In Iran

Donald Trump said that a peace agreement with Iran has been “largely negotiated” to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The president’s announcement on Saturday lacked details, and he wrote on Truth Social that it is “subject to finalization” between “the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other Countries.”

Trump had a call with Middle East leaders, as well as a sepatae cll with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, which he said “went very well.”

There has been intense media speculation over a potential peace deal, after Trump changed his Memorial Day weekend schedule to stay in Washington, D.C., even skipping his son Don Jr.’s wedding celebration in the Bahamas to Bettina Anderson.

Axios reported that the agreement would trigger 30 more days of negotiations related to Iran’s nuclear program. Axios reported that the leaders of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Turkey and Pakistan urged the president to stop the war.

As reports surfaced over the deal, some of Trump’s allies spoke out against a settlement in which Iran retains its leverage.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) wrote on X, “If it is perceived in the region that a deal with Iran allows the regime to survive and become more powerful over time, we will have poured gasoline on the conflicts in Lebanon and Iraq. A deal that is perceived to allow Iran to survive and possess the ability to control the Strait in the future will put Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Shia militias in Iraq on steroids.”

But the war — which led to Iran choking off the strait — has created a global oil shock, sending gas prices soaring. Trump’s poll numbers have taken a hit, further dropping on an issue that had been one of his strengths, the handling of the economy.

Trump’s full Truth Social post below:

“I am in the Oval Office at the White House where we just had a very good call with President Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, of The United Arab Emirates, Emir Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, and Minister Ali al-Thawadi, of Qatar, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah, of Pakistan, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, of Türkiye, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, of Egypt, King Abdullah II, of Jordan, and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, of Bahrain, concerning the Islamic Republic of Iran, and all things related to a Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to PEACE. An Agreement has been largely negotiated, subject to finalization between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other Countries, as listed. Separately, I had a call with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel, which, likewise, went very well. Final aspects and details of the Deal are currently being discussed, and will be announced shortly. In addition to many other elements of the Agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP”
