Not the finest place to leave your car! Around 80 cars receive penalty notices for parking illegally at hot spot near Snowdon

Dozens of drivers have been slapped with penalty notices for parking illegally at a hot spot near Snowdon.

Images taken today from Eryri National Park showed a huge line of cars parked on the side of a narrow, winding road.

Many of them could be seen with bright yellow penalty notices tucked under their windscreen wipers.

Around 80 cars were handed fines of £70 for illegal parking in the Welsh beauty spot.

Famous for its incredible views, people from across the UK flock to the national park to bask in its glory.

But this has resulted in the twisting roads that serve the park to become clogged up with cars, slowing other sightseers as well as emergency services down.

Last month, Welsh police issued a stern warning to Instagrammers at Britain’s busiest mountain – threatening to tow away their cars if they are not parked properly.

Officers will now be patrolling the Eryri National Park area in Snowdon to enforce a zero tolerance approach to vehicles left on the sides of narrow carriageways.

Should tourists who block roads in national parks face heavier fines?

Gwynedd Council says it expects an increase of visitors planning a hike over the long bank holiday weekend.

Previously, ambulances, police, and mountain rescue teams have reportedly been unable to access key routes due to poorly parked cars.

Gerwyn Jones, assistant head of environment at the council, said: ‘It is extremely important that our roads are clear to allow the emergency services to be able to do their job and to ensure the flow of traffic.

‘We ask motorists to park sensibly and respect the parking restrictions and keep the roads unobstructed and safe.

‘If necessary, police and council officers will use their powers to take appropriate action to remove illegally parked vehicles in the interests of public safety.’

North Wales Police warned that by doing so, motorists were putting others at risk of ‘serious’ personal injury and ‘pushing them into the paths of oncoming vehicles’.
